About the event

Join us on Monday, September 21st and learn how to grow a thriving cool-season vegetable garden! Farmer Roy will share expert tips on selecting the best varieties, managing pests, fertilizing, and caring for your favorite fall and winter vegetables for a healthy, productive harvest.

Roy Wilburn ("Farmer Roy") has more than 35 years of experience growing food commercially and organically. He spent 20 years as a commercial grower in Baja, producing tomatoes, strawberries, peppers, and other row crops before becoming an organic culinary herb grower in Oceanside, California.

Most recently, Roy served as the Director of Horticulture at Poway Gardens, a memory care community, where he managed organic gardens and orchards that produced more than 25,000 pounds of fruits and vegetables each year. He also oversaw the landscaping, Intergenerational Garden Club, food bank gardens, and Horticultural Therapy program.

Now retired, Roy continues to share his passion for growing food by speaking to garden clubs, nurseries, and community groups throughout San Diego County. He is also actively involved with school gardens in the Poway Unified School District.

Morning beverages/snacks will be provided.

Cost: Free for members; Guests welcome, $20 fee
